About This Tool & Technical Logic

International Morse code encodes each letter, digit, and some punctuation as a sequence of dots (Β·) and dashes (βˆ’). Letters are separated by spaces, words by a slash or three-space gap. Timing convention: a dash equals three dots, with one-dot gaps between elements.

The encoder supports A–Z, 0–9, and common punctuation. The decoder tolerates both "."/"-" and "Β·"/"βˆ’" symbols and infers word boundaries from slashes or multiple spaces β€” so morse copied from any source decodes cleanly.

Lookup table ITU Morse: A=Β·βˆ’ … Z=βˆ’βˆ’Β·Β·, letters joined by ' ', words by ' / '.

How to Use β€” Step by Step

  1. 1

    Choose direction

Encoding produces a copyable morse string; decoding reconstructs the original message from pasted morse.

  2. 2

    Mind word separators

When encoding, words come out separated by " / " β€” keep those slashes when round-tripping.

  3. 3

    Try reading it aloud

"SOS" encodes to three dots, three dashes, three dots β€” the famous pattern chosen because it's unmistakable at any speed.
