Whois Domain Lookup (RDAP)
Check domain registration: creation and expiry dates, registrar, status codes, and nameservers.
About This Tool & Technical Logic
Whois data answers the ownership questions: who registered a domain, when, through which registrar, when it expires, and its current status codes (clientTransferProhibited, pendingDelete, and so on).
This tool queries RDAP โ the modern JSON successor to the classic port-43 whois protocol โ through the IANA bootstrap service, which routes each query to the authoritative registry automatically.
GET rdap.org/domain/{domain} โ the RDAP redirector resolves the authoritative registry in one hop.
How to Use โ Step by Step
- 1
Enter a domain
Bare domain only. Some country-code TLDs (.de, .uk) restrict registration data by privacy law and return thin results.
- 2
Check the key dates
Expiration plus a ~30-day renewal grace and a redemption period defines when an expiring domain actually becomes registerable.
- 3
Read status codes
"pendingDelete" means it drops soon; "ok" means no locks. Status codes often explain transfer failures better than registrars' support desks.

GDPR and similar laws redact personal data in whois since 2018. Company registrations and registrar/dates remain visible.
